Providing grants and scholarships is one of the mission objectives of the Easter Island Foundation. We're proud to be able to sponsor several programs at present:

The Annual EIF Award

• $3,000 (given each year)

The Directors' Award

• $3,000 (given each year)

PLEASE NOTE

The Weigand Education Scholarship Award is no longer available, but we wish to extend our deep appreciation to the Weigand family for its generosity in supporting our scholarship program for the past four years — and we encourage any persons or organizations interested in helping to keep our scholarship program alive to contact the Easter Island Foundation.

Other past scholarships include the Nicolas Haoa Sr. Memorial Award, which has been given five times since 2005.

Selection Criteria

• applicants must be students of Rapa Nui heritage under age 30

• awards will be decided on competitive basis — on past academic performance and a short essay describing the goals of the student and how he or she hopes to apply his or her education

• the selection committee consists of the EIF Scholarship Committee, a representative of the office of the Governor of Rapa Nui, and two teachers of Rapa Nui culture at the local school

• a report must be given by the award recipient each year denoting his or her progress in the education process
